Skibet blev tildelt England 1947 Tildelt den danske stat og købt af "Ove Skou" 1951 6/11 Brand ombord i Valencia, Spanien. Ved branden ødelagdes mandskabets opholdsrum. 1958 apr. Oplagt i Kbh. 1959 sep. Solgt til "Armamento
Agenzia Marittima Framar" Genoa Italien. 1961 Omdøbt. 1972 25 apr. Rammer en undersøisk genstand, på rejse fra Carloforte til Genova. Grundet større lækager trækkes B.S. på grund ud for Portoscuso, Blev senere hævet og blev erklæret
totalt forslist, Savona Italien |

EMPIRE CONISTON
At the end of World War 2, with Germany overrun, all remaining German shipping
was seized as prizes. The total number of seized or confiscated ships was 502
and these were allocated to the three great Allied powers: Britain, The United
States and Russia.
Only 95 dry cargo, 20 general cargo and 21 tankers were left in German hands so
as to assist in rebuilding the German economy. The ships allocated to Britain
were placed under the control of the Ministry of War, given ‘Empire’ names
and managed by private shipping companies.
Empire Coniston was built as Sorrento by A.G. Weser, Bremen and completed during
April 1925 for R. M. Sloman Jn. She was sold to D. G. Neptun in 1927 and renamed
Bessel.
After she had been confiscated the MOWT renamed her Empire Coniston and she
traded as such until sold in 1947 to Ove Skou where she was operated as
Birgitte for 12 years. She was then sold to Framar in 1959 and traded at first
as N. Martini and later as Nicolo Martini.
On 25 April 1972 she hit a submerged object near Tortocuso and it required her
to be beached to prevent her sinking. She was re-floated and found to be beyond
economical repair and was broken up at Savona beginning 10 October 1973.

M/S BIRGITTE SKOU af København, 1828 B. R. T. Bygget 1925 af stål. Brand om bord d. 6/11 51 i Valencia. Søforklaring i Helsingør d. 21/l 52. Kl. ca. 0430 opdagedes det, at det brændte i det næst-agterste mandskabskammer forude om bb. Branden bekæmpedes med skumslukker og vand, og brandvæsenet fra land tilkaldtes. Kl. 0700 var ilden under kontrol. Ved branden ødelagdes mandskabets opholdsrum. Anm. Der er intet oplyst om årsagen til branden.
